Part 4: Background – What makes the atmosphere of a painting – Oil Painting Multilayer method

Background is always considered an auxiliary element in paintings. But … the background usually occupies the largest area of the paintings. Especially with topics such as still lifes, portraits … the background is really important. If you do it right, the background will make the theme better and if you do wrong, it will panic the whole picture .. For this reason, I decided to make the background part of a series of videos about this multi-layered painting technique. I will use the Burnt Umber color to paint a thin layer, and plan on the dark parts You should pay attention, use the pen with hard bristles to paint and blur maximum objects in the distance, or parts of the shadows. Always looking at the canvas at a distance, it will help you to see which parts need to be blurred. In this picture, the light is on the flower cluster on the right so … the background on the right I want to paint darker and the left lighter. … the flowers on the bright side, therefore will stand out more … … the flowers on the dark side won’t get too dark … After drawing the under layer for the background, I added a light and cool layer for the highlights In this color section, you can freely choose the color you like, but you should not paint thicker than the main subject, but here are the flowers. You can use your hands or a soft cloth to remove the color stains on the contiguous lines Note: the color is very toxic, need to be cleaned immediately after using your hands In the dark areas, I like to show some of the color of the lower layer, so I try to paint very thin. After finishing the background, I continued to use the hard brush to correct the bad parts. Note: you should see the whole picture, not the small details in this section. Keep your eyes far away from the canvas. On my picture, you can see that it’s covered in cool tones, with a little bit of color underneath. That’s what I want. In the end of this section, I added some small details to prepare for the latter, the final part. As you can see, the background is a very important part, it creates an atmosphere for your paintings. As a whole, you can see that after this step, the picture has begun to show the position of the flowers, above and below. It is because of the background.
