Painting Flowers on Cakes

Painting Flowers on Cakes

Hi I’m Lorelai and welcome to my channel.
Today I’m going to show you how I made this really brightly colored cake for a
birthday party. And if you have been watching my channel, I did make a cake
similar to this, it was my Mango cake recipe. So you can check out the Mango
cake recipe. But I’m going to show you today how to do the painting on the side
of the cake and also how to make these flowers.
Okay? So stay tuned. You’re gonna need Peach.
I used peach, red, yellow and I have basically two tones here. So you’re gonna need that. I have green, darker green and a little bit lighter green. And I
made my green by mixing a bunch of different greens/
I had Moss green, Juniper, leaf green. Then the blue is a combination of blues
and then I ended up putting a little dot of black in there. And that made it more
richer and those are the three colors. Actually there’s four colors
um this is the fourth one. And this is buttercup yellow.
And I think, let me see what else did I put in there I started out with lemon
yellow but I didn’t have enough lemon yellow. I wanted to make a gold color so
I put the buttercup yellow in there and then a touch, a very small touch, of blue
and red. Very very tiny drop. And that makes kind of a gold color. You’re gonna
need some tools. I’m using literally just a knife, like a butter knife and a spoon
and then I have another knife. Whatever like you can find to kind of… well you’ll
see. So let’s get started. I’ve been experimenting a little bit
with these painted textured paint buttercream textured painted cakes. So
literally you’re just going toswipe it on there. And don’t try to fix it. It’s
perfect. I start out with the red ones And basically that’s the start of
the flower. It’s going to have green here and some little bit of a center. You
could do like all around if you wanted to. I’m going to have where it’s going to
look like it’s from the side and there’s going to be green here a little stem. So
I’m going to put them all around the cake and I’m going to fast forward that
part. You might also want to have some brushes
around because you can do some finer touches with it. Add some more texture. I kind of like that. Just have fun with it. You might want to do some dragees in the
center there. I’ve got gold sprinkles and I’ve got some the little round dragees,
and the dragees, the larger ones, you have to
use a tweezer to get them on. For the sparkles you can use a paint
brush, dip it in the water, get the excess off, dip it into the sparkles, and then
just touch the flower with it where you want to put them. And it should stick to
the buttercream. That kind of brings the flower to life
in my opinion. I just think that makes such a huge difference. And then once we
get the green on there…so don’t fret in the beginning…. it’s going to look like…
your cake is kind of…. it comes together at the end. I went in and I put all the
little dragees on there. Then the next part is going to be the yellow or gold.
Now I’m going to use a quarter inch or a quarter teaspoon for that because I want
to make these a little smaller. These are just gonna be single, mostly
single. I’m just gonna try a little experiment
with this paintbrush. Because the blue ones you want them to be smaller. So I have a little bit of actual color
right there and I’m just dipping my brush in and then dipping it into the
frosting. And that will create a little bit of depth. I like that. You know it might take a little bit of
time to play around a little bit before you get things the way you want them to
look. I like that one. Up here With the leaves, I’m going to stripe the
bag. So I have a #352 tip and I have a parchment bag here. And I’m just going to
put some of the light green in there first. Then I’m going to fill the rest
with the darker green. A little bit more of thew light green. That was just help to
give it more dimension again more realism. Okay when you pipe your leaves, if you look at it from the side you’ll see it looks like a fish’s
mouth. So that’s the side and then this is the top. So you hold it like this and
you squeeze out your leaf. And you just let this pressure build up, and then you
pull and release. Another little detail that you could do… Take your paintbrush with some green on
it. Let’s do it here, and just add a little bit of softness. Then I’m going to add some more leaves For some of the finishing touches I’m
using blue and gold and number one tips. And they’re in little tiny parchment
cones. You can find that video on my channel. I have a video on how to make
the parchment cones. So as you can see I did some little yellow ones here. I’m
just going to do yellow and blue. I try to do a little bigger dots at
the top and then it goes smaller smaller smaller. This will give the flower more height
and also easier to pick up off the plastic. I’m basically just doing a
little ruffle here. Up and around and then at the end I’m gonna stick some little sparkles in the middle just like
on the side of the cake. So this is just the base part. This is
going to hold the petal and make it more three-dimensional. This is also kind of like the Orchid
leaf. If you want to make your flowers look
really, like their above, and three-dimensional, you can just take some
buttercream and put it wherever you want your flowers. I’m going to just put it right there. That’s gonna be my arrangement. Thank you so much for being here. I
really appreciate it. And if you haven’t done so already subscribe to my channel
