Hello, this is an update video in which I
will share some knowledge about stuff in Paint.NET. It’s really important for people who have
just started using this program and doesn’t know how it works.
I will bring as much information as I can. And of course, this video will be like an
update for my older video on the same topic — tutorial number 91.
I’m doing this update, because I have improved my tutorials, my audio quality, video quality,
maybe my english language. Of course, that older video was kinda distracting,
because it had background music, for which some people have complained.
So yeah. Let’s get started with this one. This is how Paint.NET looks when you open
it. On top we have got some options.
For example, file — new, to create a new image.
File — open, to open image. And so on.
We have got some buttons under it. If you are doing much work on Paint.NET they
really help, because they allow you to quickly access most commonly used options.
Of course, you can use shortcut keys. They are always shown here.
Next thing is all these tables. One is for tools, others are for colors, layers
and history. And here you can see opened images.
You can close them, or switch beetween them or whatever.
So now, the tools table. It has got some selection tools, some changing
selection or moving it, some coloring or picking color, texting and shapes.
Selection tools are usefull for selecting some part of the image and applying changes
to only that selection. For example, I will use rectangle select tool,
drag a box. And I can apply any effects, but they will
only affect selected area. Let’s try curves.
As you can see selection tools may be usefull for these things.
Of course, you can crop to selection. Select an area, and go to image — crop to
selection. Or use shortcut key, which is writen right
here. Or just simply click this button.
So as you can see it’s really awesome. Of course, if you want to deselect you can
go to edit — deselect. Or use shortcut.
Or hit esc on your keyboard. Or use this button.
You can also fill selection with any color. So, choose any color. I will leave it on black.
And hit backspace on your keyboard or go to edit — fill selection.
Also, you can color things without selection. For example, you can do gradient thing.
Or just paint with paintbrush. Or maybe use paint bucket, but you may need
to adjust the opacity. Which is percentage of how strong filling
you want. How far color will go compared to other colors.
So if you haven’t understood me just try messing around with this.
Also, you can pickup any color with this guy. Ok, next item in my plan is tools options.
So, every single tool has got it’s own options. Lets pickup any random tool.
So, here you can change anything about it. Let’s pickup up any other tool.
And as you can see we have got different options for it, because it’s different tool.
So it’s also usefull for anything you would want.
And another great thing about tools that you can change their defaults.
So, if you close and open Paint.NET, every tool resets their options to defaults.
And if you’re using same options over and over again you would want to save them.
So, you can do that by going to tool: choose defaults.
And you can change anything from here. You can also reset, or paste from toolbar.
When you are done click save. And that’s all. Now, let’s continue with the layers.
They are hard to understand for beginners. But as I can tell they really help, they are
not so misunderstood or something. They are easy to use.
You just have to understand them. So here are some button, which will help you
to manipulate these layers. You can also use layers right here.
But it’s easier to use table. So you can add layers, you can delete layers,
you can dublicate layers, you can merge layers. Or you can move up or down these layers.
And of course, every layer has got it’s own small options.
You can open layer options by double clicking on it.
Or you can use button on layers table. Or you can go to layers — layer properties.
Or press F4. You can imagine layers as paper sheets.
So top layers are more visible than layers below them.
I will draw some random things on seperate layers.
So. Wait a second. I will try changing layers positions.
I will use move selection tool to move something in, for example, this layer.
Deselect. So as you can see you can affect things only
on that layer. Like we did in selection.
Layers positions are also important. Because I can hide or unhide things.
And last, but really important thing about layers is layer properties or options. So let’s open them on any random layer, because
this is just an tutorial. So, you can change a few things about it.
It’s visibility. Blending mode.
And the opacity. You will have to try playing around with blending
modes, because I don’t have time to explain them all.
But every blending mode gives you different effect or look.
And the opacity is just layer transparency. If you change opacity of the layer, you can
see through it the other layer below it. Of course, if you done your project you can
save the image as pdn file, so it will save all the layers like how they are now or etc.
But if you want you can save this thing, for example, in png format, or the other format.
But you will need to flatten the image. So you can do this by going to image – flatten.
Or you can go straight to file — save or save as.
Choose format and filename and it will ask you for flattening the image.
I hope you will understand layers and it will be easy for you to use them.
I have seperate tutorial on layers so you can watch it.
Maybe it will help you more. Now, let’s continue and in my list I can see
colors table. You can select colors by clicking on color
in this color wheel or in here. Here you can select primary color using your
left mouse button, and secondary color using right mouse button.
If you click more, you can edit your selected colors.
Here you can change if you want to edit primary or secondary color.
Of course which you want to use with coloring tools or etc.
You can also switch beetween these 2 colors. Or reset to black and white as it was by default.
One more thing about colors table is that you can save your colors.
If you want to save any color just click this button and click on any color and it will
replace default color with your selected. Last thing about colors table is that you
can save colors presets, or switch beetween them.
Or if you want you can reset to defaults. I have seperate tutorial on colors table,
so if you want you can watch it. Next item in my list is history table.
It’s good for going back or forward to any step in your project.
You can click straight on action or use these buttons.
You can also use edit — undo or redo. Or shortcut keys.
And that’s all about history table. You can turn on or off any of these tables.
So just go to window, and here you can click on any you need.
You can also use shortcut keys as well. Now about pastying, copying, resizing etc.
You can find these things on top. There it says file, edit, view and so on…
File — is for creating a new image, opening something, printing or saving your project.
Edit has got undo and redo actions. Also some options for cutting, copying and
pastying something. With some selections options, and color filling.
View is mainly for how you want to view your project image.
Image and layers — is for changing your image rotations, for cropping them, for flattening
the image and for layers manipulations. Main difference beetween them two is that
image applies it’s effects to whole image, while layers tab applies everything only to
layer or layers. Now, adjustments and effects are mainly for
effects and all fancy things that you can do.
Paint.NET itself doesn’t have much of these effects, but I have a few tutorials on how
to get them, if you want. You can download them seperatly from website
which is shown in tutorial number 78. Or you can download a package of these effects.
You can download them from a few places. For example, from same website, or from my
website. Or from forums or etc.
You can also get effects from Paint.NET forums. You can go straight to them by going to help
— plugins. Now, utilities and window tabs are not so
important for me right now. But if you want you can check them out and
see what they do. And most important thing as a beginner you
need to do, is to go to help tab and see however it can help you.
You may find Paint.NET forums really usefull as I did in the beginning.
So, I think that’s all for now. Please check out my other tutorials.
Try some things from them. Practice alot.
Have fun. Feel free to ask anything you want.
Also, we have got Paint.NET group on facebook where you can get support.
Of course, sometimes we are doing some competitions which are fun!
So, thanks for watching. Comment, like and subscribe.
See you next time. Bye.
