paint brush holder mixed media art

feeling a little art craft crazy
hi I’m Donna from art craft crazy and today on using a combination of
materials and items that actually mean something to me
I’ve created this mixed-media paint brush holder. T here are a few DIY mixed
media art embellishments on this project that I also have videos for like how to
make your own chipboard tags, and paper flowers I’ve used them on this
paintbrush holder. mixed media art is so easy to do you just grab anything and
everything you have because you’ll find as you go along you will use some and
not others, and then you’ll be searching for that a little extra piece that will
just fit perfectly… so please press pause and replay if you miss any bits music playing start off by finding the right container
cover your box with the texture paste I’ve got the recipe here for you
I used texture paste for two reasons as a glue and to cover the printing on the
recycled box, now I’m a hoarder and I know that they don’t make these paint
samples anymore they give you those big single colored squares. I’m also using
some of these music sheets that I found in my mum’s stash I think they date
right back to her grandmother yeah I think they date right back to her
grandmother you can see the sticky tape marks on them. The paint
swatches they go perfectly because I’d go through and match up the colors. I’ve got four sides to use for my mixed media art here. I use the texture
paste as glue I do that at the beginning because of these texture pieces I don’t
use hot glue because it would melt some of these pieces. This is just a it’s
quite firm it’s a mesh, it’s a plastic mesh. And when I bend it it stays it
holds that shape so you don’t have to use your your pieces on just one side
fold it around the sides make it interesting the texture paste is slower to dry,
but be patient because it just looks better, and I will hold this down with
some elastic bands and I just walked off once I’d done that I just walked off and
waited for it to dry because I have a lot of patience…
this this is the one that definitely would have melted it’s like real foamy
it’s real soft so be generous with the texture paste because it actually adds
to the mixed-media look, so throw as much or as little as you want on there music playing I’ll put the elastic bands on just to
hold it down and I just walked away and went and found something else to do for
that little while until it went got a little bit tacky enough to move on. now
I’ll start using the glue gun it’s much quicker, and whatever I put the glue on it will be hidden underneath music playing so I’ve already picked out a few
embellishments that I’d like to use I’ve got some old well these parts on youth
who watch dials and those I got from eBay little bag full of watch parts and
these two butterflies use something that means something to you the butterflies
and these little pencils were from my mum’s craft supplies she recently passed
away and so I wanted to use a lot of things that were hers so when I look I’ll be looking at this
every day now this little sticky tape holder I
also means something to me I bought that because my friend also
plays around with art and I had to buy a packet of those and I gave them to her
and I have one left the little owl I don’t know it was just in among all the
things that I had so I just pulled it out and I thought that would look nice
dangling from the top because you see the lip at the top of the container it
hung off that nicely the butterflies being too I thought I’ll
Bend the wings on the top one so the bottom one is flat and the top one had
some shape to it so it just hot glued one on top of the
other and they’re just a very fine metal you could do that with paper as well so it’s starting to take shape and
another pencil now this was in mums things as well a
rusty old set of clock hands now she would have had these for years I know
mum she hangs on to things for so long and I just thought when I seen them I
thought are these hands they’re rusty I’ll have to throw them out I’ll never
be able to clean them up and I thought no now I’ll keep them or use them one
day I sure will I’ll use them today rust and all this also was in mums things just a
broken down our watch so that in other watch pieces to the
side of this container as well this pieces are new they’re replicas you just move things around until you
find where they look good and group things up I do apologize for the fast-forward on
the video but it would have took an hour or and it took me quite a while to make
this so please be patient don’t be in a hurry when you’re putting these mixed
media creatives together this also means something to me it’s the letter K it’s
my husband’s initials and this is just a pair of Ches just a little charm I guess it it just
looked good there and this is a brass hinge I’ve put that on the corner of the
container so half went on one side and half on the other it was just a cute
little additive it just looked good there was something a bit different and
this is just a jewelry finding it just also you know dig out something that’s a
little bit different this is a key it’s a recycled house key I’ve also got
a video link for you here you can watch that video to make these keys I’ve added
a little metal butterfly charm and this is just a little sentiment with the word
happy and of course I’ve got to put some miniature buttons on I have a friend
that also passed away many years ago and his nickname was buttons so every time I
see buttons now I’m reminded of him he used to work at the Salvation Army and
when the clothes come in if the clothes were no good they would remove the
buttons so that’s how he got his nickname buttons and I’ve also got these
chipboard tags I made this tag out of scrap bits of
cardboard so the video for that is also in the link above and these are tiny
little off cuts of printed paper cardstock another 12 by 12 sheets just
rough up the edges and find a spot for that as well the paper flowers I made
those out of book pages there’s a link above for you here on how I made the
paper flowers they are so easy to make and
look so good you can put them on anything I use them on cards as well now
this is telecom wire all I did was pull the wire out of the center of it to use
on another project and I was left with this cable the covering and I thought I
can use that stems for my flowers hot glue I love the hot glue gun another DIY chipboard tag glue that one
into place these are purchased chipboard pieces these were mums as well I put moments I
probably should have put memories here that would have worked anyway moments
will do it’s taking shape grab a little heart and add that as well just keep going back and adding pieces
as you feel you need them so I’ll put some more music sheet paper on here and
then put the clock faces over top now I’ve got the hands in place so I can
start building that up and around rip those little paint sample pieces you
don’t have to leave them in their entirety just rip them in half turn them
around upside down any way you like and this is a vintage tassel but was seeing
among mums things another little paper sentiment tag that
was on one of the cards that one of mums friends had sent to her and this is a
metal feather and some copper wire that has just been spun around on a little
card spool and this is a bread and of course some scissors it’s a
little teapot charm I made using a a pre-purchase set and I just put the
added the bead to it and the key and another pencil and now a little
chipboard ow these are only got two of these little
corners they usually are used for boxes so I put one at the top and one at the
bottom more pencils and more pencils now paint over that gold corner
protector because I’m going to put another little charm on top of that I’m
going to add some beads and I just hot glue them in place to put a group of all
different sizes and I turn it over and put it on the
mesh as well to balance each side of the container and just throw them in
randomly don’t give too much thought give a little thought some at the top
some at the bottom just get some balance now I’ve swapped out and using the
glossy accent and I’m going to put a row of the smaller beads right around the
top of the container there’s a little bit of a lip there where the lid setting
because it was an ice cream container it needed just something so I’ll put all
small roller beads around it with a random larger bead every now and again
just to just to break it up a little bit when I finish going around all those the
the glossy accents sort of glued them in place and when it dried I went back
around again and put a top coat of the glossy accents on just so they wouldn’t
break away I’ll just add some vintage looking roses
they’re just little material roses this shop-bought has got some netting behind
it so glue them there and the D on the ticket that stands for my initials being
Donna so those beads are nice and strong now
that glossy except dries up perfectly and really clear now I’ve added some a
little flower and little flower trimmer under the owl so he didn’t look like he
was just floating there I also added a pair of vintage gloves off-camera and
next to the scissors there’s a little pearl heart and some vintage roses and
that’s all that into that sticky tape because the pink sticky tape was a bit
of a misfit so that’s why I put the pink gloves just sort of balance it out a bit
and the teapot moves so I only glued the top of it so it’s got some movement
there the tassels got some movement I added off-camera a pin I’ve also got a
video on how to make these stick pins in the link above it’s nice to be able to
make all your own bits and pieces and add them to mixed-media projects I’ve still got lots of space on this so
as I go and I see something or make something I can add it on he later on I love the mesh here and I think it
really really looks good paper flowers they’re just absolutely beautiful
they’re so cute those clock hands they they’ve worked really well on he they
just what our vision so I’ve got some spices there to feel
later now I added some sequins as well there
we are all finished and I can put my paintbrushes in now which also add to
the finished look I’m pretty happy with it I know I can sit this out on my table
or on my bench and look at it every day and feel pretty happy there’s lots of
memories on here and items that are gonna make me smile I’m Donna from art
crafts crazy thanks for watching and bye for now
