Midnight Moon Painting | How To | ANN LE

♫ It’s only you outside ♫ It’s only fire ♫ It’s only love ♫ It’s only (mumbles) ♫ We’re only liars ♫ – Hi, everyone. Today we are going to paint
and we’re going to paint the moon above the water as if we’re standing on an island looking out. So I saw this photo on Instagram. It was like, Photo-shopped,
but at the same time, it just has this beautiful calmness to it and that’s why it inspired
me to do this painting. And I’m so happy to hear
that you guys can relate to my painting videos. There are so many great
paintings out there and you know, I don’t feel like I’m
the best painter at all because I’m not a painter. I’m not a professional painter. But to hear that you guys can learn and relate to my painting videos and also feel inspired from it, it just, it makes me so happy. It makes my heart happy. The moon has a feminine energy to it and it’s so calm and it’s so relaxing. So I want to paint this
picture for you today and it’s the moon above the water and it just gives me a
nice sense of calmness and I feel like as if I
am standing on an island looking out into the beautiful moonlight. I love it and I hope you guys
will love today’s tutorial. So, let’s go head and get started. Alright, guys. So I went ahead and
primed my canvas already. Now I’m just going to make some
sketches to give me an idea of where the moon will be placed and where my horizon will be placed. The first layer of color
I’m using a light teal color and then I’m going in with a darker shade. After the paint is dry, I’m using this tape to
separate the sky and the ocean. For the dark sky, I’m painting in a darker
shade and I kind of made it a little darker than I anticipated, so I’m going to lighten it later on. For the ocean, I am mixing greens, I’m mixing blues, and
I’m also mixing yellows. ♫ It’s only love ♫ – [Voiceover] The great
thing about acrylic paint is that it dries quickly, so you can move on to
the next layer of paint. Now I am drawing in my moon
and I’m painting it a nice, light yellow. ♫ So safe within my heart ♫ – [Voiceover] Painting
the moonlight reflection can turn out really
beautiful and effortless. All you have to do is use a little brush and dip it between the white and the different shades in yellows, create little ripple
effects in your water. And the less perfect it is the
more realistic it will look. After working with the highlighting color, go in with a more darker
shade and do the same thing. ♫ I hope that you’ll come to (mumbles) ♫ in the quiet of lasting grace ♫ – [Voiceover] To paint
in the moon’s detail, I like to use a dry brush and I would use a darker,
browner shade to paint in the details and the
texture of the moon. (calm instrumental music) – [Voiceover] Since
we’re standing on land, looking out at the beautiful moon rise, we’re going to paint in some palm leaves because we’re standing on a
beautiful island right now and I like to use a pencil to sketch this in before painting, so to paint this you want to
use a dark shade, a dark as, the darkest shade for your water and then just use a nice, fine
brush to sweep in the leaves. ♫ You’re only dying ♫ You’re only dead ♫ (calm instrumental music) ♫ It’s only water ♫ It’s only fire ♫ It’s only love ♫ – [Voiceover] What I love about
painting is that it’s a time for you to disconnect from the static and distractions that
surround you every day. It’s a great time to reflect internally and spend time more with yourself. Give yourself that quality
time you deserve so much. ♫ It’s only water ♫ It’s only fire ♫ It’s only love ♫ (calm instrumental music)
