How to Play Paintball : Discover What to Expect from Your First Paintball Experience

Hello! This is Rob Rubin and you’re watching
Expert Village. You’re probably watching this video because a coworker or a friend or one
of your frat buddies or somebody talked you into playing, and you’re thinking what in
the heck did I just get myself talked into. Don’t worry. Paintball is fun, it’s safe,
and you’re going to have a good time. So, what are you in for? Let me tell you. Before
I even get started, let me answer the most important question that you’re probably going
to have first. Yeah, it hurts. But it’s not really that bad. It’s like getting snapped
with a towel. It’s a quick sting and that’s about it. That’s the worst of it. Trust me.
I’ve been all ends of the spectrum of pain and it’s well under breaking a bone and very,
very under getting a tattoo. Having done both in my life, you’ll have to trust me on that.
First things first. Once you get there, you’re going to have to sign one of these things.
This a waiver form. Basically, it’s so that you’re insured and you’re admitting that you’re
not going to do anything stupid. I mean you’re an intelligent person. You went on the net
looking for information, you found this site, didn’t you?. Once you’re registered in, they’re
either probably going to give you an orientation right away or they’re going to give you gear
right a way. Well it doesn’t matter which is which, but when they give you the orientation,
pay attention. These are the rules for the day. You have to know them. Then you’re going
to be given your rental equipment, which are rental pair of goggles and rental paintball
marker. You’ll notice that this one has a big funny thing at the end of the barrel.
Don’t touch that. They’ll tell you when you can remove this. These, do not lose these.
This is the thing that’s going to keep this paintball game safe. Keep these on at all
times on the field. They’re going to tell you this anyway, so I might as well so I might
as well pound it in your head now. Now, having the rental gear kind of reminds me, a lot
of people try to wonder what am I going to have to bring with me when I go play paintball
for the first time? Do I have to go buy all the fancy gear? Do I have to go buy everything?
No, you don’t have to. If you don’t already own camouflage, don’t sweat it. I know a lot
of people that just play in long sleeve t-shirts and blue jeans and they’re perfectly fine.
Some fields even rent camouflage coveralls or jackets. Do a little bit of homework. Find
out a little about the fields. See if they rent the stuff, and if they do borrow it from
them. Once you get all your gear together, if the field has a target range take a few
practice shots on it. Get to know what your paintball gun shoots like. This is not a firearm.
This doesn’t handle anything like a shotgun or anything like that. Plus, when you put
the goggles on everything in the world changes. For example, I can hear my own voice really
loud and my field of vision is really, really small, but this is the one thing that’s going
to save my eyesight if I take blast to the face. It’s not a bad idea to learn how to
use a paintball marker here rather than learn how to use it on the field. You’ll thank me
later, trust me. A question that a lot of people also ask is what do you do if something
goes wrong? What if you hit a gopher hole and you twist your ankle or your goggles completely
fog over and you can’t see anything? Simple, call for a referee. That’s our job. When we’re
on the field to play we are there to ensure your safety. So, if you can’t see I’ll be
more than happy to be a seeing eye dog if I’m your referee. I know every other referee
that’s what their job is. Their job is to keep you safe. Okay, so in closing in a nutshell.
When you get to the field just relax. You’re going to have a good time. It’s going to be
a safe time as long as you do a couple things. Keep these on, keep this in. Make sure you’re
wearing clothing you don’t mind getting dirty and grubby. Just relax. Have fun. We’re not
expecting you to be a genius. If you are that’s a bonus, but we’re not expecting. You’re a
new guy. We’ve all been there. Everybody’s been a newbie, so have fun. If you decide
to stick then you start learning all the fun tricks.
