How to Play Paintball : All About Paintball Propellants

On behalf of Expert Village I’m Dan Foss and
I am here to tell you about paint ball. Well there are a couple of different propellants
that we use. The one that everybody is familiar with is liquid C02. As C02 gets warmer it
forms into a gas and that is what fires the marker and the markers work on 700 to 800
PSI. This one is a never needs retesting tank. We have to test 3 AL tanks every five years.
If we don’t retest them, we can’t fill them. So if you bring an anniversary tank to me
in its anniversary month, we can fill it for four years and eleven months that it is on
here. On its anniversary month we can’t fill it. This one is a 14 ounce tank. We try to
get it up to at least 13 ounces. We don’t want to overfill it because we have got to
get a little bit of expansion in here. This burst disc should blow first before the tank
does. We have got to be careful and make sure this brass stays on the bottle. Liquid C02
is a cold propellant. We are shooting a round ball. That is why back in the Revolution they
shot elbow to elbow because the balls would shoot and go different ways. Well with liquid
C02 it does have a tendency to spin and go different directions. A better propellant
that I like to use is high pressure air or nitrogen. This is a carbon fiber bottle and
again a lot of these bottles go every five years. This one is off my scuba tank and I
use my fill station for that. It has a quick disconnect that I can use I can plug right
on to that and it has a gage. It has 4,500 PSI and I use my control line which screws
on to it and then it plugs on to my marker and that’s how I shoot when I’m out. I get
more shots out of this than I do with my liquid C02 and my shots are more accurate. I get
more play time. It costs a little more but it is worth it in the long run.
