How To Paint A Simple And Colorful Acrylic Paint Background

Putting on paint with card is one of my
favorite painting textures and it’s really fast but not just because you can
get a good coverage quickly but also because when you use it with acrylic
paint it spreads paint out so thinly that it dries really quickly
so great if you have got a lot of time and you want to do a lot of layers and I
also love that you can get some really lovely unique textures with it now this
project day was actually inspired by a page from one of my junk journals and I
will probably be sharing that piece with you at a later date so keep your eyes
out for it but I wanted to go with this piece first as is a more complete piece
and it shows the background layering to build up a dark but colorful background
so I thought you might find that useful for when you’re trying to build up a
similar kind of background but before you think this piece is planned it isn’t
completely planned so it was inspired but I didn’t plan it through all the way
I have some goals for the piece but it grew organically too I suppose this
piece is really all about contrasts and hopefully you’ll see that as it develops [MUSIC] I love the way the layers work in the
background and you’ve got different colors on each layer and they work
together but they also work separately too and had a real beautiful color
texture to this piece I think now I waited for each layer to dry before
adding a new layer but as I said when you’re using a card to apply the painting
you do it thinly then it really doesn’t take that long to do now the addition of
that color wash was a sort of I came back to it and thought yeah that needs a
color wash because I think it does lift the flower from the page a little bit
more and I think it did make a difference didn’t it now if you’re ready
for some more mixed media tips and tricks then watch these next and I’ll
see you over there
