How I Bunny Proof!

How I Bunny Proof!

hey guys this is Haley from 101Rabbits.com and in today’s video I’m gonna be showing you guys how I bunny proofed the bunnies new playtime area this took me so much longer than I thought it
would I started probably two or three weeks ago and we only just finished well
I just put the finishing touches on like right before this video so yeah it took
me a lot longer but I’m super happy with everything and how it turned out so I’m
gonna go ahead and show you how I bunny proofed it and how its setup so the
reason I started with just this area is one it was completely empty and it was
are just a really good place for the bunnies to have a play time area it’s
right outside their bunny room so I don’t have to like carry them or do
anything like that to get them to the playtime area so let’s just get started
I’m just going to show you how I did everything so that you guys can have
some tips and ideas on how to bunny proof your guyses house so the first
thing you can see behind me is as gate this is a 4 foot tall X pen that we
actually disassembled and then reassembled three panels only and then
attached it to the walls we have like this little wooden place guards thing
for it so that it doesn’t move around and this is just kind of acts like a
giant baby gate so that Milo my cat cannot jump over the top Milo has never
jumped over a 4-foot xpen before so I’m hoping you know he won’t do that the
bunnies will only be out here if I’m at home so I would never leave Milo
unattended with the bunnies out but he has never shown interest in jumping over
this so that is really good so this is how we decided to attach the
pen to the wall now my parents do own this house so my dad was willing to put
a screw in the wall I know if you’re renting sometimes you can’t put holes in
the wall so you might have to use something like a command strip or
something but my dad just decided to put the screw in the wall so that I can dog
leash clip it to the pen and that seems to keep it pretty well up honestly it’s
not gonna go anywhere so we did this on each side and that’s how it’s connected
to the wall so another thing we did is we put the door in the middle of two
solid wire panels and the X pen that I have has these nice little doors you can
buy them on chewy.com I don’t remember how much they were I think they are on
sale when I got them but it’s super handy because now it’s just like a walk
through baby gate and this whole pen is able to disassemble and come down like
if I have guests over or if I need to like move something larger than this big
through this area it can come down which is nice
you just have to unclip the dog leash clips and lift it off of this board so
this is super nice when I am like getting the bunnies their food I can
just walk through here and you know I can leave it open otherwise it stays
shut pretty easy otherwise I can latch it so it does have two latches but I
normally only latch the top one because my bunnies haven’t really shown any
interest of like trying to get it open so that’s really nice yeah that’s
basically it for this panel thing so now I’m going to go ahead and show you how I
put improved the rest of the area so the next thing we went ahead it did is
protect all of the trim on this area just because if you guys don’t know it
sterling is like a mega chewer literally before I bunny proofed this I had them in
this area for playtime like under very close supervision so that I could like
stop them if they were chewing something bad and Sterling literally like ran by
the trim and like how the chunk out and then like kept
running I’ll show you that in a second honestly like literally sterling eats
anything and everything he’s a typical you know destructive rabbit so I really
needed to protect all of this trim because this is a brand new house so
what I went ahead and did is bought these clear it’s like a baby proofing
rubber edge and I have a love-hate relationship with these they worked
really well for the baseboards they haven’t really come off at all they
stuck very well and it looks very nice because they’re see-through so like at first
glance you can’t even really tell that there’s stuff on them but I really hate
them for these door jams because they come in like a roll so it’s very like
they just keep bending back and not sticking into place so I bought these
little command strips and like put them underneath there to help it stick even
more I don’t know it doesn’t seem to be working so if you guys have any like
really good like corner protectors for like door jams or like corners let me
know because I might switch to like a hard plastic type not like a rubbery
bendable type anyways but I put some on here here and down here because
sterling definitely will chew anything he can get his teeth on so
that’s what I did for that and then we had to figure out how to bunny proof the
doors because they do have like this texture in it I don’t know if you guys
can see behind the baby gate but there’s like this like texture and the door to
like make it look nicer I guess and that’s something sterling could get his
teeth on and chew so we needed to figure out how to protect it and then we also
needed to figure out how to protect the rest of the door jam so like this stuff
right here it like kind of sticks out a little bit so we decided just to put
these baby gates in here like this and that basically protects the door and the
rest of the door jamb from being chewed so these baby gates are not the greatest
because you do to step over them but they are nicer
than the super cheap ones that are plastic these actually have wire
underneath this coating it’s just like better for bunnies because I’ve had
rabbits chew through those cheap plastic ones so this one they can’t chew through
because it is wire if you guys have any suggestions of really nice walk through
baby gates let me know cuz I think I’m gonna upgrade to those so that I don’t
have to keep taking the baby gate up and down but my hesitant to buying walk
through baby gates right away was because they tend to have wider like slots which
means sterling could fit his nose in there and chew the door through it so
I’m not really sure I think I’m just gonna have to buy the walk through baby
aids and then like buddy proof it with like mesh or something
but yeah that’s what I decided to do for here and then over here we have the
laundry room door as well so I did do the same thing here I put the baby gate
and we have all the trim protected on this side so this next thing that we did
is super cool it’s these little wooden gates that we did to protect the bunny
room door cuz obviously we can’t have a baby gate in front of here because I
can’t get in and out but we needed to protect this whole door jam so that
they didn’t chew it because the last bunny room they were in they completely
destroyed the whole door and the door jams because we did not bunny proof them
so sorry dad so this is like what we came up with it’s these little panels
this is just pine plywood and then like pine trimming and basically we
just have it on hinges like this so that the gates can fold close when I’m not
using them because the bunnies do not stay in their playtime area at night for
safety reasons they just stay in the bunny room so at night I can fold it all
up and close the door and it’s really nice because this one is blocking Lulu’s
pen so that the bunnies can’t interact underneath the door but when it’s Lulu’s
turn to come out and play I can just fold this all up but Lulu honestly
doesn’t chew anything so really if she was my
only bunny I would have had to do any of this because she went to chew anything
but sterling and ebony chew everything so this just goes out like this so honestly
I probably won’t have had to put these protectors on this corner but I didn’t
know that the pen is gonna block it at that time so this goes all the way back
and blocks her door and then this one blocks the entire bunny room door so
that they can’t chew the door at all and the door frame so this was really nice
and we only made it two feet tall because I measured how tall sterling is
when he stands on his hind legs and I kind of decided that I don’t think he’s
gonna chew anywhere above two feet tall these pens would not keep him like out
of a room because he could easily jump over it but he’s not gonna be able to
like stand up and like two above this so that’s really nice and obviously if you
have like a shorter rabbit like ebony you wouldn’t have to make it this tall
but sterling is kind of really big so we had to make it taller so this is the
view from this direction as you can see this just can fold up and it text the
door which is nice because sterling already chewed the door it’s just a tiny
little spot that I think we can cover up with paint but yeah I’m glad I have we
have this to protect the door now and this one over here protects them from
fighting underneath lulu’s door one she is in there and
then this is the area rug that I have down in this area I believe it’s a five
by seven rug and I got it for like $30 at a store that was going out of
business so you can’t really buy it anymore
but it’s an indoor/outdoor rug which is nice because it’s easy to clean so in
the summers I can take it outside and like hose it off if it gets dirty and
then in like the winter times when I can’t do that I think I can just spot
clean it pretty easily because it doesn’t have like long fibers or
anything so I really like that but beyond that I really haven’t done any
finishing touches in this bunny playtime area I really want
to get some really nice hidey houses and tunnels and like stuff that’s a little
bit cuter and like more like fun for them to play with so I thought I would
mention the front door real quick because it doesn’t have like a baby gate
in front of it obviously that’s because the front door is like one of those like
steel doors like it’s not wood so the bunnies can’t chew it so that’s really
nice and then I did go ahead and protect the trim around the front door so that
is all protected and so far we haven’t had any issues so that is basically it
for this bunny proofed bunny playtime area I hope you guys enjoy it if you
guys want a video on like how I do my playtime with the bunnies like when
sterling it ebony get to play and when lulu gets to play and stuff like that I could
do that for you guys and like show you done playing around I did want to
mention that eventually I would like to bunny proof other rooms in my house but
like I said this took me like probably like three weeks so it did take a while
to do but yeah that’s basically it for this video I hope you guys enjoyed it
and I will see you very soon on a new one bye
