Drawing TROPICAL BIRDS with POSCA PENS!

Drawing TROPICAL BIRDS with POSCA PENS!

Steph & Adam: Hi art friends!! Today we are going to be showing you some Posca markers Yes these things! And they come in such bright colourful colours because they’re paint markers I’ll show you them all in a second actually because there’s too many to hold up on camera but we were thinking what is better to draw with bright colourful colours than tropical birds! they seem quite trendy with colouring books at the moment
– trendy birds S: these are all the loose ones that we have then we have this pack with the finer nibs these are some massive ones that I bought for Adam recently A: it was a really nice present that you got for me the tips on these are enormous S: look at how big these are compared to the fineliners look at the size difference especially the nibs on them the one on the right is like a tiny fineliner and this one has a huge chisel tip and another cool edition that Adam’s recently picked up that he’s kind of sitting on we live near some antique shops and they had in these little booklets that Adam found and this one has a bunch of tropical birds in it it sounds like back in the day haha “back in the day” this was LONG before we were born A: I think these were sold with teabags and you could collect the card things, which are these S: we’ve been very lucky with this one because this person seems to have collected
A: all of them!! S: and look at the inked illustrations that they have aswell S: we do have another one where you had to collect the cards off packets of cigarettes A: yeah so it was a chain smokers book haha S: we’ve also got one of English birds but the person who had this one hadn’t completed it A: there’s only a couple that are missing S: I really like drawing birds, they’re one of my favourite things to draw A: there’s one missing that’s a swan, a whooper swan the reason that we got these is because I did go out shopping to buy some food and I saw these so I spent our money on them instead we don’t have a lot of food in haha you took it really well S: I didn’t mind, I think they’re really cool plus its inspired a Doodle date so KUDOS TO ADAM A: and if we get hungry we can eat these S: do you guys like drawing birds or is this an obscure thing we like haha? A: I’m excited to get going!
How about if you choose one and I’ll use the other S: but we’re drawing TROPICAL birds A: aw does that mean these guys get no love? well we can always draw these birds later S: Yeah expect a video in the future called Drawing English birds
A: (in england) A: how many tropical birds can you name? S: PARROT. COCKATIEL. UMM… WHOOPER SWAN? A: NO. He’s ENGLISH. S: you were showing me a video of this guy earlier on, what’s his name?
A: he needs some slippers S: here’s your pencils A: OOH have any of you guys heard of these? Shoe bills. because a lot of people say they look like loftwings from Skyward sword A: I think they’re called shoebills in real life
S: is it because it looks like you could use it to take your shoes off A: haha just grab his head, TAKE MY SHOE OFF. A: ok I think we should get started are you sniffing it? S: the book smells so antiquey A: yeah there’s a certain smell S: books smell nice when they’re new but OLD BOOKS, guys do any of you guys collect old books? A: it probably smells like mould S: it smells quite perfumey A: it does not smell like perfume S: IT DOES. It smells like a Grandma has kept it for a really long time A: it smells like old people in book form S: nice!! does anyone else like smelling their grandma? A: *elderly voice* “I’m so glad you came to visit” *SNIFF SNIFF* S: aww I used to love sniffing my Grandma A: don’t tell people that S: oh okay I won’t tell anyone A: have you picked a bird yet? S: no hahaha which one do you want to draw? we might aswell on every page, pick one each A: how about we pick one for the other person to draw S: okay, who are you picking for me? A: I think you should do the Macaw Who do you want me to draw? S: haha , THAT ONE. The ornate umbrella bird. A: ohh no the one that looks like he has a slug on his head S: I thought it looked like a French beret I like how we’ve got all these beautiful coloured Posca pens and I picked you a very black bird A: I’ll make it work S: I’m jumping straight in with drawing a parrot A: we need David Attenbrough to narrate *David Attenbrough voice*
“And here we see Steph, trying to draw the Macaw.” S: Trying. A: “The Macaw looks sad because he doesn’t have any eyes.” S: that’s a good reason to be sad haha at least he can’t cry about it though it doesn’t look anything like a parrot yet A: it looks like a parrot wearing a bedsheet like a ghost parrot
S: NOO A: “WOOOO” *ghost parrot sound*
S: AROOOO S: oh he’s looking more like voldemort A: VOLDEMORT DIDN’T EVEN HAVE A NOSE. look at that pecker! S: how’s your ornate umbrella bird going?
A: the bird that’s name is made up of random words haha A: I liked your idea of him wearing a beret so I’ll put that little pointy bit in doesn’t that look like one of those really old fashioned Victorian the ruffley things S: YEAH! Like when posh people go out for dinner and they tuck it all in A: he’s got his ruffles out S: like a Shakespeare bird S: my parrot’s just looking a bit TOO intense at the moment A: HAHAH POLLY WANT COUNSELLING SQUARK S: I used to have a pet parrot! A: oh yeah you did! what was its name? S: Tikka! A: I never met Tikka, but if he looked anything like that.. then I’m glad I didn’t hahaha! I’d love to see one in real life, does this thing flop around in the wind? S: oh his little tassley bits like a cape A: does his bowl cut get in his eyes? it’s such an interesting bird. S: Adam kept teasing my bird so I’ve made him look happier I’m going to start colouring my bird A: I’m not sure how to colour mine! he’s very dark S: wow are you going straight in with your big chunky pens? A: well the only light blue is this pen S: noo I think we have one in the fineliner set A: *GASP* YES. Thank youuuu S: do you guys have any suggestions for what his name should be? A: what about JEAN- LUC *French accent* that’s a really cool name, I wish my name was that S: It’s fun using Posca pens again because in our very first Youtube video, I was using Posca pens in it! A: were you?
S: at the library! can’t you remember, I was drawing birds actually ๐Ÿ˜ฎ S: posca pens work really nicely if you’re doing a painting and you can easily get a paint effect with a pen if you want to do some tiny little details and are scared to use a brush S: I might have to use a pencil to shade the beak in because I don’t have a grey A: that’d work! S: YAY you’re colouring your beautiful tropical bird! A: he looks very dark S: I might aswell have picked out a crow for you haha A: he could be a very fashionable looking crow mine’s going to be a band of birds and he’s the lead singer S: I wonder if that’s actually a thing A: What? A real bird band? S: NO NO, I mean a group that’s called “Bird of Bands” A: Band of BIRDS S: oh dangit A: their hit single is birds of a feather S: hahaha that’s so lame a squawk cover A: Don’t make fun of Jean-Luc’s vision S: he looks like he’d study fine art at University A: he did, he took fine art and psychology S: haha psychology
A: it’s to help your parrot S: it looks like he appreciates a good loaf of bread A: he does and he likes lattes S: hahah lattes A: I’m going to let that dry for a second and put some blue in it’s not fair, I gave you the most colourful bird S: haha I know right but you’re colourblind, maybe I was doing you a favour A: lets not trick ourselves
S: I was looking out for you S: I’ve got so many rolled up paint flecks I want to remove but I know it’ll rub paint everywhere A: you picked me the hardest bird in the world to colour!! S: but it’s coming along so well!! and because these are paints it means you can overlay lighter colours ontop of darker colours A: yeah aslong as you let it dry then you can go over it as much as you want A: I can’t even remember your name ;__; S: HE’S JOHN-CLAUDE how could you forget!? A: I don’t recognise him with this horrible colour job that I’ve done S: yay this might help him loom a bit more parroty now that he’s got a grey beak one of my favourite things about Posca pens is just how vibrant they are if you work with alcohol markers, it’s hard to get the same colour punch that paint markers have S: I reckon we should pick another bird to draw A: yeah! All I’ve got left to do is his little beret do you want me to pick a page? S: yeah it’s probably best, my hands have got a bit covered in paint while I was removing the paint flecks off of this A: okay, I know which bird I’m going to ask you to do! S: Which one?.. haha! a: The Scarlet Cock of the Rock! S: Oh that one?! Hahah! Isn’t he on the front cover of the book?! A: He’s not on a rock, he’s on a branch! A: You need to pick one for me!
S: Oh gladly! Let’s seeee… S: Oh! The rest of them are all cute!
A: I know that’s why i picked you that one haha! S: Well, I think you should go with that one because it has a massive beak! A: Wha.. What’s he called? S: He looks like a flamingo but he’s a fake! S: You know, having a bird like that around would be so helpful when we clog the hoover! A: We just jam its beak down the hoover?! “Get it!!” S: I hope you guys can appreciate how great my sketch is looking right now hahaha! S: Apparently English Robins look completely different to American robins… A: Really?
S: Yeah!
A: What do the American ones look like?.. S: I think the English ones are smaller, rounder and a bit chubbier
A: Yeah they’re quite fat the English ones.. S: Because one of my friends moved to England and she was just like: “Oh my Gosh robins look like they do on Christmas cards!” S: Yeah the American ones just look a bit more evil than the English ones, I think thats the best way to put it! S: This is what a British robin looks like
A: Look how fat he is! S: So there might be an American person watch that is like: GAAAAAAASP! A: “This isn’t a bird book its a Christmas card!”
S: Yeah exactly! haha! S: Wow! You’ve been putting some right details into Jean-Luc! A: Well he’s like the band frontman? So he has to look good! S: he looks like he’d play those little drums
A: a tambourine S: NOO, those really artsy people who do poems and they have a little pat drum A: Bongos! S: HAHA BONGOS S: Who do you know that speaks sad poetry while playing the bongos?! A: haha I don’t know but I would watch them!! S: are you going straight in with a Posca pen? A: yeah but I’m going to try make this one a bit smaller S: Are you trying to make it look like a band poster? A: YEAH! I don’t know what to call it though we’ll have to think of a band name S: OH this is going great so far look we’ve got our second member already can you remember in Mr. Men, every single earth worm in Mr. Men used to look like that A: it’s not an earth worm S: why’s this one got a big red crest? A: he has in the reference! S: are you sure? I think you’re really putting this up for artistic interpretation
A: nope nope S: so this is my bird that Adam picked out for me and since he’s called a cock of the rock uhh here’s his rock A: he wants to rock! he’s a very red bird S: yeahhh!
ooh that’s creating a fun texture on that side oh what was that song that you used to always sing to me? something about tropical birds wasn’t it something like “MY BIRDS, MY BIRDS” you have no idea what I’m talking about A: haha no!
S: the volvic water one! A: That was tyrannosaurus Alan! S: didn’t he talk about birds? A: Yeah! “YOUR BIRDS”
S: There we go ๐Ÿ™‚ A: “MY BIRDS. YOUR BIRDS?” S: I thought reminding you about that would provide a beautiful soundtrack for the video should have that in the background the whole time A: “I’M THE DADDY NOW”
do you remember that haha S: this literally does look like a band poster now A: Jean-claude plays the triangle and she can play the tambourine S: I thought you’d pick an instrument she can play with her beak A: haha she can clean the hoover out she’s a groupie that cleans their hoover S: are you excited to pick the next birds? A: oh I’m ecstatic how many are we going to do? S: I reckon you could only fit one more in ohoho there’s some good ones on this page A: oh noooo and it’s your turn to choose first aswell oh jeeeez S: this one, it looks like his head’s inside out oh there’s a flamingo in here! A: oh wow an actual bird we know S: I think I’m pretty set on giving you that guy A: let me have a look, I haven’t had a proper look at him S: his head looks like its wrapped in bacon A: that’s King condor “WHICH ONE OF YOU PUT BACON ON MY FACE??” oh look at that scarf he’s got on S: oh yeah he does, it’s a very fluffy cashmere scarf this video’s been very educational Adamu A: if I’ve got to do King Condor then you can do the Magnificent frigatebird S: HAHA the one with the big dulap A: there he is in flight and that’s him when he’s been stung by a bee S: oh he looks a bit cuter when he’s flying..
A: no you have to do this one S: AWWW A: he’s like “I’ve eaten too much bread” S: all of mine will have a reoccurring red theme oh I’m so excited to watch your interpretation of this guy A: King condor?
S: yeah! S: do you think he lives in a condo? A: King condor’s condos it’s where he spends all of his band money he’s a property dealer S: and investing in good bacon A: “PAY ME WITH BACON, I WANT TO PUT IT ON MY FACE.” okay lets get started S: I’m putting off mine so I can watch what you’re up to haha A: he’s got this weird thing going on his face S: we need to turn this into an official poster or something A: I can’t even make out what his face is meant to look like so this is just guessing S: I think this is going to be one of the funniest things you’ve ever attempted to draw I don’t think you’ve named your pink bird yet? A: that can be Patricia S: she does look like a Patricia, I’ll give you that A: she looks like a sock puppet S: you should dress as this guy for Halloween I’m so glad we have this book as evidence that these things exist then again it’s really old fashioned, imagine if they were all just made up it’s not like they’re photographs A: someone made it just to mess with everyone look at that magnificent sack thing he has, it’s almost like what a frog would have you’ve got to add his little sack spots S: sack spots hahaha
A: he’s got them!! look! it’s a VERY IMPORTANT DETAIL
S: okay!! S: I don’t want to forget those
A: he’d be very upset if you forgot his sack spots S: the problem is that because his sack’s so big S&A: AHHAHA S: I can’t fit the rest of the bird in!! A: he looks really embarrassed about it “I’m sorry my sack’s so big” what is that, it’s got to have a scientific word S: neck sack I’ll tell you what, when we decided we were going to do some cute tropical birds I bet there are NO colouring books that have this guy in A: look at how magnificent I am, COLOUR ME S: maybe one day we should make a colouring book with really ugly tropical birds in it haha A: while you’re colouring, I’m going to see if I can find out why it.. why it… why it has a big sack S: yeah please do try explain this to me A: IT DOESN’T SAY S: WHAT
A: How could you write a description about a bird that has a huge sack on its face and not talk about it!? S: It’s a fashion statement I tell you what, I know which bird’s not going in the thumbnail ahha I was concered that my tropical birds didn’t look tropical enough so I’ve been doodling in tons of green foliage and I even written in tropical birds but as you can see, Adam is on the floor and he’s hiding whatever he’s working on so we’re just waiting for this big reveal
A: it’s a surprise S: yeah things tend to be a surprise whenever you hide down there have you seen the mess of all the pens A: I think we’ve used every single one S: I wish it was easy to keep them in rainbow order it looks so much cuter when they’re in the proper colour order OH It’s nice to see you back! A: I have returned! S: you look mischievous A: soooo it’s a surprise are you ready?
S: yeah! A: the band, they’ve finally decided on a name for it
S: this is brilliant news!! A: do you want to see what the name is?
S: okay! S: Jean-Luc and the Feather Frenzy hahaha as if you’ve really went to town with the font A: Jean-Luc did it S: Is he wearing a pink feather boa? hahahahah A: no seriously on the picture, that’s what they have! S: what’s his name? A: Jean-luc, Patricia and ummm S: what’s a name that sounds like Bacon? A: Bryan
S: My Uncle’s called Bryan HAHA A: Boris. S: I like Boris. Boris is good! A: So Jean-Luc, Patricia and Boris and together they are Jean Luc and the Feather Frenzy S: hahahah what video can I link up here, what relates to this hahah A: How about when you drawn birds in the first one? S: YEAHHH! We mentioned our first video and we drew birds in it or at least I did haha yeahh that’s an old video DOOODLE DATE A: “YOUR BIRDS? MY BIRDS. YOUR BIRDS?”
