Color Washing Faux Finish Technique – Dutch Boy Paints


Color Washing Before you begin this technique, make
sure you prime your surface and apply your satin or semi-gloss base color, and
allow it to dry for 24 hours. Start by dipping just the bristle tips of the color
washing brush into the glaze paint mixture. Dab on a newspaper. Apply thinly in a random crisscross pattern of
large, overlapping X’s, letting some of the base coat color show through between brush strokes. Work in a slightly diagonal two-foot section
from ceiling to floor to create a random design. Complete an entire wall before stopping. To soften brush marks, dab with
a rag and brush over to blend. Applying a second coat allows lighter and darker
areas to appear for soft mottled appearance. Wait 24 hours before applying a second coat. For additional basic project information,
