Basic Oil Painting Techniques : Choosing Paint Colors for Oil Painting

On behalf of Expert Village, my name is Vince
Fazio and I’m here to talk to you from the Sedona art center about one session oil paintings.
Titanium white is the white I’m using. Flake white has led in it. Zinc white sometimes
has led in it. Some painters have become kind of saturated with the toxicity of oil pain
and don’t use it anymore. A lot of painters have switched to acrylic, acrylic is a great
medium, I paint in that medium as well. There are some paints that are more toxic than others,
I mentioned manganese blue, led white would have led in it obviously; you can protect
yourself with plastic gloves. I know house painters that have become saturated with the
acrylic, so one compromise that a lot of people are turning to, some of the teachers here
at the art center is the oil base paint that are water soluble and that’s a good option,
right in the middle.
