ART BLOCK EVAPORATES!? | Mystery Art Box | ArtSnacks Unboxing ! | Liquid + Marker Watercolors

𝐈𝐭’𝐬 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐢𝐧 𝐦𝐲 𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐬!! the March ArtSnacks box! [Sped up chipmunk voice:]
This is 10 days late, I actually had to call the PostOffice and be like “hey yo, where’s
my package” and they’re like “well I don’t know. where does it say it is?” and it says
“it’s late 4 times and then it doesn’t say anything else” and they’re like “ok
well we’ll try to find it” and then the day after that, WOOM! it shows up in my mailbox [returns to regular speed]
*tap, tap* suspecious, just saying anyway I’m very glad to finally have this in my hands,
because a little birdie told me that it happens to be ArtSnacks birthday mayyybe? so this is
a special box and I’m very excited to open it, see what’s inside, and then draw
something with it!! ♪ so here we have the March-oh okay that
was smart [of them] putting this in a little baggie this is, it looks like some ink *bag crinkle this
appears to be not ink as I previously thought. but actually ‘liquid watercolor’ I do want
to see what color that is like immediately I think this is actually watercolor paper I don’t know, it’s been sitting
on my desk for a very long time *swatches art suppy silently so first I’m just gonna pull away from it with just
ink okay and then I’m going to add water to my paintbrush and then see what
happens ooh I can’t draw a straight line 𝙗𝙪𝙩
that is really pretty ooh! and we got this Scrawlrbox [*𝘖𝘔𝘎 𝘐 𝘚𝘈𝘐𝘋 𝘚𝘊𝘙𝘈𝘞𝘓𝘙𝘉𝘖𝘟, 𝘐𝘛𝘚 𝘈𝘙𝘛𝘚𝘕𝘈𝘊𝘒𝘚*] sticker sometimes they put
like themes in their sticker but this looks like their official logo colors also these, we’ve got a pineapple dumdum pop classy. can’t go wrong with one of those
𝙪𝙣𝙡𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝙞𝙩’𝙨 𝙥𝙤𝙥𝙘𝙤𝙧𝙣 𝙛𝙡𝙖𝙫𝙤𝙧 oh my gosh that one’s disgusting although I’m sure
there’s somebody out there who likes it okay that’s really cute let me get this open and let me show you so [this enamel pin] in the shape of like a little badge and it says “official art snacker” look at that reflection! it’s a little hard to read
like there’s not a lot of contrast in the pin but it’s so cute teal and the
yellow what else is in the box? this is the menu so it lists all of the art
supplies that we will be finding out about inside here I hope there’s a paintbrush
to use with that I’m doing things in a weird order today so here we have an Ecoline
brush pen, I think I’ve used one of these in like a green color there seems to be some kind of lead/graphite residue on everything. I’m gonna guess one of these two is the culprit so
we’ve got two Swiss Wood Caran d’Ache HB pencils I’m gonna drop both of them at
the same time *draws with both of them at the same time* oh, is that watercolor in there? what is this? and then what is this?! this is….. I feel like everything’s very vaguely labeled this is a King Art
Inkline pen I wonder if it actually writes in yellow? 𝙮𝙪𝙥𝙥𝙞𝙙𝙚𝙚𝙙𝙤𝙤𝙙𝙖𝙝!! never been a huge fan of yellow pens because you don’t see them on white paper and white paper is what I tend to use reading up more on
this pen apparently it is waterproof 𝘰𝘩! 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘪𝘵’𝘴 𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘴𝘦 𝘰𝘯𝘦𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘩𝘢𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦
𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘵𝘭𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘤𝘬𝘱𝘪𝘵 ain’t that’s so cute when you can see the little nib on the pen whenever there’s a little window on a pen 𝘐 𝘨𝘦𝘵 𝘴𝘰 𝘦𝘹𝘤𝘪𝘵𝘦𝘥. but yeah this is
waterproof so I should be able to put this down and then put watercolor on top
of it *tests her hypothesis* it’s cool the lines turn green as would be expected, but there’s no
smudging look how evenly that watercolor goes down that’s a nice flat color isn’t
it so I’m trying to figure out how I want to use all these art supplies
together so we have these two pencils 𝙒𝙃𝘼𝙏?! 𝙏𝙝𝙚𝙨𝙚 𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙁𝙄𝙑𝙀 𝘿𝙊𝙇𝙇𝘼𝙍𝙎 𝙋𝙀𝙉𝘾𝙄𝙇𝙎?! 𝘦𝘩𝘩𝘩𝘩𝘩𝘩𝘩𝘩𝘩𝘺𝘺𝘺𝘢𝘢𝘢! okay. so one is made from dark beechwood and this one I assume is made
from pine they’re both HB graphite and if you
smell the tips of them, you will smell 𝘣𝘳𝘰𝘸𝘯 𝘴𝘶𝘨𝘢𝘳?! what… what is this? *sniff* oh my gosh *sniff sniff* okay mostly this one smells like brown sugar, this one not so much guess I’ve
never smelt dark beechwood before, I bet if I sharpened it to I bet that
smell will be even more potent oh yeah Oh now it’s in the air! [*while laughing ] okay! I made a mess I’m gonna try sharpening this one, see if it smells too or if it’s just the dark
beech wood *sharpens pencil off screen* no, that that definitely smells – yeah that’s a wood we have here
in Michigan, that smells very familiar Oh it’s pine… yeah hehe imagine they’re
chopping down a dark beechwood tree in your backyard
geesh the smell you do get that brown sugar smell… was that worth five
dollars? I’m used to my pencils costing like ten cents that’s all I’m saying yeah okay so this is kind of what I was guessing but this and this are the exact
same ink formula so they’re both watercolor one is in this liquid form
that you can dollop with your little plunger (that’s not what those are called) and then then you can use this one which is in brush pen form which is really
really cool I like the flat even washes you can get with that I think it
really cool not sure which one I like better yet 𝙖𝙝! 𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚 𝙞𝙩 𝙞𝙨 𝙄 𝙠𝙣𝙚𝙬 𝙞𝙩! the birthday!! 🎉 so ArtSnacks turned six years old this
month. so as a birthday present they’ve included this enamel pin so it’s
something just a little special to commemorate the month that’s really cool now it’s up to me, to take all of these art supplies and try to create an
illustration with them and I think I feel like I want to take inspiration
from the pineapple flavored sucker I don’t know
I’m feeling that way, let me get over to my sketchbook where I can start thumbnailing some ideas *quick prep montage* so we do have this yellow pen which is kind of ‘pineappley’ to me and then if you mix it with blue and the yellow. you can get green and then
we could actually even wait a minute use this brush pen and shade the
pineapple although this is looking a little light but when we go over that
pen we create a darker Brown oh that’s fun I do you think I’m getting somewhere here
let me see where did I put the yellow pen? is it like visible on screen and I
can’t see it? oh my gosh *inhales dramatically *chokes on stupidity okay then. mmm… I’m gonna try and draw a bigger one so they are a bit
round try to get that texture then the leaves actually comes out like this a
little green, or blue I guess, when it’s interacting with the yellow pen it goes
on pretty blue but then it looks like it’s drying a bit more on that green
shade that I want look at that I drew a pineapple! see I can just go over the pen
with the brush pen because the areas that I want to be darker I already have
a pen and they just darken up just like that! it’s perfect let it dry I can try going over the with pencil see if that’s
something that’s working something like this I do need to say
something this is..hehe… I can’t believe my first ideas working this well, because when
I first looked at these colors pineapple didn’t really speak to me but
I thought I’d give it a try and it is ooooo man! see you never really know, gotta just
test it and see what happens it’s really freaking cool man who would have
thought right? I don’t know maybe it’s blowing my mind more than it’s blowing
anyone elses but I like this little guy okay I just like that’s more references
and they’re actually green around these sections so I might take a
smaller paintbrush and try to see if I can go in there and do this properly so it’s
basically green in between all of these sections [called the berries] at least on some pineapples, it probably depends on the ripeness look I’m trying to pineapp𝘳𝘳𝘳𝘳𝘳𝘳𝘳𝘳𝘳le! I don’t know
what my voice just did there since this yellow pen is so light I
think it would be good to try and do the sketching with it just try
thumbnailing some ideas, brainstorming a little bit including a girl because
that’s what I like drawing add some pineapple earrings and she should
probably be holding a pineapple really push that pineapple *its hard to see stuff so let’s jump to the coloring* add some color here don’t need to be too
perfect, this is just a thumbnail just try to get a feel for where I want all
the values to be there’s my plain-jane idea I’m not sure the colors all
stand out, like they seem all pretty equal in like-they’re all kind of
fighting for that same mid light pale tone and none of them are really standing out so
I think I’m gonna have to go in grab some almost straight of this 509 blue
ink and add some of that somewhere to like bump up the contrast is that better
or worse I can’t really tell it’s always hard when you can’t really see the
original when you make changes like with digital art you can do it on a separate
layer and turn it on turn it off turn it on turn off and make sure you know which
one you like better but with traditional art it’s kind of like a “well you just
have to go with your gut” but I think I am leaning towards this as an
improvement *randomly throws in some legs so I sketched some legs in here with
pencil and we’re gonna go over those with this brush pen make sure nothing
ugly happens because that might be how I decided to go for the finish drawing this paper doesn’t love these pens I’ll make sure I go back to the watercolor
paper for the finished drawing so we don’t get this weird speckling I feel
like giving her a knee brace, hehe, I just wanted more color down there okay I suppose I
could just do like an anklet but that’s so normal try some more ideas
here still not for sure on how I want to go about this *tries to find another way to go about this* sunglasses! 😀 so another idea here that I’m
playing around with is just very heavy on like the pencil and the sketchiness
and then having a pop of color which I chose blue for this one the only problem
with this idea is it kind of doesn’t leave room to use either of these two
colors I’m not sure that I’m crazy about this idea either see that is fun but I feel like it’s a
bit of a cop-out because I have all these other artsupplies that I should
try and use that is a potential-it has potential then this could be like
the color of sand but then see now we’re taking like a bunch of color and we’ve
just randomly left the skin paper white and it just seems a little weird although, this [marker]
is a perfect sand color “pink beige” although seeing as we do have the colors of like sand
and water and the Sun and even the sky I suppose if we played around with it
enough – I could just leave the whole character even the hair and bathing
suit paper white and then only color in the background that’s also an option I
am really liking the sketchiness and since they gave us these two pencils I
feel like that’s a good reason to just go that route let me grab some uh…..watercolor paper so I have
this like a long skinny piece of Excel watercolor paper the Canson stuff and
I think this layout could really suit this idea so I do think that that is
what I want to do I’m gonna start with pencil (the brown sugar one of course) I’m
just gonna start sketching out that idea I really like her like turning I feel
like that’s kind of a dramatic pose and yet it’s still just sort of standing
there pretty simply just make sure we have to layout down first before I add
too many details *works on layout – not details * what if we bring this arm up like this
and then she can be like playing with their hair and that fills up the space
up there *completely silent sketching* I forgot the sunglasses – how did I forget the sunglasses?! and all is right
with the world again maybe the sun’s like right here or do I
want to put it right behind her not sure I’m crazy about the sunglasses
anymore some reason I can’t get them to look right at this angle ohp! we need to add a
tie back here so her bathing suit could stay up that’s important try and add some more
detail to this hand I think I like its placement I’m liking the way this is
looking so far I feel like there’s a lot of good expression in her face
the pose feels kind of organic – she’s also curving so it’s very flattering on
her figure hehehehe her other hand is back here somewhere *fun aesthetic art sounds* so just about finished the
character and I added a little bit of something something to the background that we can
then add color to do I want to erase some of the lines we definitely don’t need? and
then yeah I’m gonna do the background first and then if I’m feeling gutsy
maybe add color to the character but I kind of like the idea of it being very
sketchy and like the character pops out of the background by not having any
color in it at all so let’s see how that works, I didn’t fully test it but I don’t
know I’m going with my gut here the first thing is back here is the Sun I
have a very thin little pen here and I have to fill in this entire Sun *thin pen sounds going back and forth* *back and forth* there we go there’s some actually
visible yellow I’ll do the beaches with this ‘pink beige’ (I don’t know why I find
it so difficult to say) couple sand bars in the distance little mini islands and of
course the beach she’s standing on yeah these pens works real nice on the
watercolor paper definitely their paper of choice sometimes when you don’t like
an art supply it might be because you’re using it wrong or using the wrong tools that is like the perfect beach color 𝙤𝙝 𝙢𝙮 𝙜𝙤𝙨𝙝! I am in loove! you can build it up once it’s dry and create a little bit of
shading I’m not coloring all the way to the
sides because I do want to give it that like coloring book illustration vibe I
mean it obviously is but I really want to push that fact
oh wait wait I want these to be green so I’m gonna need to color those in yellow
first just like that and then I’m gonna take the tiny paintbrush go over that
with some blue to get that perfect green yes now I want to use (I’m gonna need a
little bit more of this) I want to use the dark blue for the water and then maybe
light blue for the sky and I want to leave some white spaces for shine so I
don’t want to fill the whole thing in and then [the water] would probably get lighter
when it gets to the beach so we can actually layer that on top a little bit painting water with watercolors was always amusing to me hehe add more water to the brush as we get to the
beach it actually looks like…. oh my gosh these colors, they just scream beachy
summer to me that is like awesome, okay, sorry I’m freaking out a little bit – today it’s
just going very well which is nice after last week geez okay sorry okay do I want to try and add sky? the only fear I have for
the sky is that it’ll blend in with the water a little too much I’m gonna go all in I’m gonna use a bit of a wider paintbrush for this and make sure that I
really dilute this water color because I don’t want it to get close to the color
of the water see how this looks, ehh it looks different enough doesn’t it? can get a
little darker when I get like higher up because it’s farther away from the water
but right next to it is where I’m worried LOOK AT THAT BACKGROUND! there’s obviously mistakes but the color choice man I got lucky these are some
nice – okay…sorry I’m just….. I don’t want to say – I’m just really really happy with
the way this blue looks with this what do you call “pink beige” – I think that
really just screams summer to me and that’s exactly what it was going for the
Sun placement is feeling a little odd to me but I’m not gonna let that bother me so I’ll let this dry and I’m just gonna go over all of like the edge lines cuz I
kind of want to make it look a little bit more like a coloring book think that
will help a little bit with the look I’m going for I also might add some more tone – I feel like it’s all just a little too white I
like how it gets darker over there so I might like color in the bathing suit maybe? try and keep it all going in the same direction basically I’m not
trying to hide that this was done with strokes of the pencil all these other lines widen them a
little bit if need be sometimes things turn out almost exactly the way you
pictured them and this is one of those things I’m on top of the moon! okaaaay! you know
it happens on occasion! I really love this vibe I’ve always been a fan of art
that looks like it’s art it’s not like trying to be a photo you know like
that stuff is cool too – like that takes some skill but my personal preference is
something that closely more closely resembles this vibe and I think the fact
that everybody has their own favorite kind of art as what really makes art
beautiful because you can see the same drawing drawn by a by several different
artists and it’s gonna look different it’s gonna have a different
interpretation and that’s just fricking awesome to me okay? alright so I think I
am just about done here unless I want to do something really crazy but I think I
like where it’s at so I think I’m gonna let this just live as is I do want to
