Ariel Little Mermaid Fan Art Watercolor and Color Pencil Speed Paint

Ariel Little Mermaid Fan Art Watercolor and Color Pencil Speed Paint

Hi everyone welcome back to my channel for today I’m going to be sharing with you this speed paint I did of the little mermaid So I was inspired to do this drawing because I saw a toy review video of the Disney animator dolls the little mermaid one and the doll was just so just so gorgeous I really wish we have a Disney store here in Singapore I don’t think it would be very affordable to ship it here from America but man that doll is so pretty and it’s hair is just outrageously gorgeous so I was kinda inspired to draw a little chibi of Ariel in her mermaid form with a lot of hair and I just like went crazy with the hair I did this drawing back in January and I’m first just transferring the sketch on to some watercolor paper I originally was going to do this with copic markers but I noticed the newer watercolor paper I bought back in January was the perfect size for the sketch I had already done so I thought I’d try that out and see how it works it’s a brand new paper for me so I wasn’t sure how it was going to go, the texture is different then what I’m used to it’s not something I like instantly and the papers a lot thinner then I thought it was going to be when I look at the pad it does say that it’s only 90 pounds or 200 gsm um I should have well at the time there was no other paper to buy they were out of stock of a lot of things so I thought I’d try it but this drawing was actually delayed in posting I think it took me 2 weeks to finish it simply because I got so frustrated with the paper it’s way too thin you can’t use it loose sleeve unless you know how to stretch it and I honestly don’t know how to stretch watercolor paper yet I probably should look that up cause I already tore off another sheet for something else and I’m not doing that again it was terrible what I mean by it being terrible is that it was fine for sketching although I noticed that the graphite of my HB pencil just like went everywhere and I’m just not used to that um and it was fine for inking the problem came when I started doing the watercolors it just buckled like crazy and sometimes it would just lay down funny it was not exactly fun I spent quite a few days flattening it before I continued on I’m not too fussy about buckling paper I’ve had that before during the inktobers um but this time it was just severe buckling it was terrible you can even see it here i just put a background and the edges are already poping up on either side very frustrating its very very frustrating so um the only good thing is I pulled it through and I actually was able to get through the watercolors and finish with color pencil and I was really happy that it was finished and it looked good in the end but now I know this paper is not my friend so um yeah I did this drawing back when I was super into chibi’s and again I was inspired by the Disney animator doll those dolls are so freaking gorgeous (meant to say cute) I’d totally love to get some of them I even saw around Christmas time they had like a pack of a bunch of little princesses and I would have loved to get that but no money right now plus uh yeah really expensive to ship it here to Singapore um so I’m thinking about doing more Disney Princesses in the future I’ve always liked disney it’s not my number 1 inspiration but it was a huge part of my childhood I actually remember going to see the little mermaid in theaters vaguely I think I was probably like 7 or something I’m not sure I’d have to check the dates I remember being super young so I barely remember it but I remember parts I was actually more into beauty and the beast when I was a kid cause I think that movie came out when I was just the right age and I was like super super into that movie so just kinda curious anyone watching whats your favorite Disney princess? I actually don’t think I have a specific favorite I mean when I was a kid I was super into beauty and the beast but I like them all they all have their good sides so for this video I’m trying something different because I had so much trouble and because her hair was so massive and I devoted a lot of time to it I had a lot of video to edit It was actually like 6 or 7 hours of video to condense so this video I had to do a lot of super speed up clips and I thought I’d break it up a little bit by putting a few real time clips in there too so I’m saying that now and the video’s almost over so you probably noticed already like at one point I did inking in real time and with the color pencil I’m going to show you the tail in a slower down mode um let me know if you guys like that and I will continue to do that in the future or maybe you just like when i do one single speed through out the whole video, just let me know I really had trouble with the watercolor part like super bad trouble and I felt like I had a lot to clean up with the color pencil here um sometimes I kinda feel bad because I don’t know if I’m using watercolor quite the right way it’s not really the way that I admire other peoples watercolor pieces if you know what I mean? I mean it does the job but I feel like it’s almost pointless when i start to put the color pencil on top because it’s like i’m doing so much color pencil on top that I end up covering a lot of the watercolor all together and it just makes me feel guilty for some reason that I’m not doing just straight watercolor so I keep trying to tell myself this one I’m just going to do straight watercolor but I’m just not happy with the results I can’t seem to get the fine details I’m used to but I can get those when I do color pencil so it’s like this constant struggle but at the same time I do love doing mixed media it’s a lot of fun I feel like really a lot happier with the over all piece when I finish but sometimes it makes me feel like I need to focus more on watercolor to really understand it but then again I’m new to it so maybe I should cut myself slack but I don’t know I’m conflicted about this so with the hair, gosh she has so much hair, by the time I was finished coloring her hair here my fingers hurt so bad I just went over the existing color with a darker I think it was Tuscan red and then I did some black for some contrast and it just looked so pretty in the end I was so happy the videos almost over I really hope you liked my Ariel I don’t think I’ve drawn her much in adulthood I must have drawn her when I was a kid but I barely remember though but I love mermaids and you can’t go wrong shes just so pretty so anyway if you want to see the scan of this drawing do check out my deviantart the link is below and feel free to follow me on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter as well and yeah thank you guys so much for watching I really hope that you liked this video and if you do give me a thumbs up and please don’t forget to subscribe for future videos Thank you guys so much for watching and I will see you next time, bye~
