and Trying to Draw Tigers! | Mystery Art Box | Scrawlrbox Unboxing | Molotow Liquid Chrome Marker

I have my hands the May Scrawlrbox! we’re going to open it up today, see what’s inside, and then draw something with it! so let’s do that, shall we? ♪ Is that a saber-toothed tiger? all right let’s find out what the Art supplies are, look at these little chubbers! these are the pilot Pintor medium it looks like they’re probably paint markers. This one is in the color green and this one is in
the color gold and we have two more which look like they’re fine and extra fine I’m gonna guess in the color white and black we have a little (oh my gosh this
is cute) very soft, perfectly square, cube-u-lar [unintelligible] eraser! here we have the menu of all of the art supplies
with descriptions of each item there’s a pencil. this is the Milan graphite H it
is a triangle shape if you can tell? here we have this month’s Scrawlrbox sticker it’s got like a tiger pattern of green and gold I guess you could say oh this
looks promising ‘liquid chrome’ – do it actually draw in Chrome? or does it draw in black? [Reading:]
“it has a medium two millimeter tip and it’s alcohol based, it’s supposed to create a
high gloss mirrored effect” so I assume actually draws in that metallic? that’d
be crazy I gotta test that one out the candy is a mint toffee (ehhI-I don’t
know about that one) [shows off basketball skillz] the print this month AHHHH!!!! is that a spider?!?!! so this was drawn by Si
Mitchell oh you can find more of their art on their Instagram at C_Mitchell they’ve done work for YouTube, Mountain Dew, and the BBC? wow that’s cool and finally Scrawlrbox also includes some sticker..no… paper that’s the word and
this month they’re these two which happened to be: Canaletto Liscio 125 GSM
paper [wipple wipple] oo! did you hear that? [wipple wipple wipple] mmm! [wipple overload] that’s some good quality paper so it’s twenty percent cotton and 80% elementary chlorine-free wood and it’s
responsibly sourced! [wipple one last time] alright we want to test these art supplies let’s try this
out I’ll see you in an hour oo! it’s metallic sweet and the green one this one is not metallic it looks like it’s just a nice
solid green color I feel like Drax. and there is the white, a
little hard to see cuz I am drawing on white paper – we can test on this maybe you
can see a little better how that’s working okay the white was extra fine
which was 0.7 millimeters and then this one is a 1 millimeter so it should be a
little thicker okay yeah you can definitely tell let me have you know
pencil like that and then this thing which I assumed it was black but now I
think it actually draws in metallic – it needs to be prepped just like the other paint markers whoa oh is that as shiny as it looks to me? oh my goodness okay it’s very stinky but
look at this you see? now the pencils written in graphite which has a little
bit of shimmer to it but look and it’s very very shiny it looks like shinier
when I first put it down eeeshoo! 😀 I like that thing! mm-hmm!
so let’s take a look at the prompt word “paper tiger” I’m not sure if I want to go
that route or not it also suggests we try and draw on something that’s not
paper i dunno how does that work? yeah [unintelligible word vomit] wowzers! that is so shiny! I’m not sure what to draw
on okay let’s uh compare it to real metal here that’s pretty spot-on
I’d say I kind of want to color in this whole area with the chrome let’s grab the pencil and maybe oh we don’t even test the eraser did we wawaywaywaywait! I guess it erases.. let’s just kind of start sketching something and see where it
takes me I can’t say I’ve drawn a lot of tigers I
think they have faces shaped like this…oh my gosh ummmm [uncomfortable humming] he’s beautiful meow [laughs] don’t worry about
the details but try to draw the body, it’s gonna be kind of similar to
a cat riiight? try to draw him on something this one looks a little bit
more like Hobbes just trying to like understand what a tiger looks like
obviously I can’t just jump in and draw one without any experience I’m just
trying to like simplify it and understand the basic shapes so that I
can kind of draw it hopefully in an interesting pose or something and the
way I do that is by drawing it wrong so that I can learn how to draw right cuz drawing it wrong kind of gives you the place to like look at
it and see one thing that’s wrong like obviously there’s more than one thing
wrong but you can slowly check off the list of things that are wrong don’t
think they actually have a chin past their chin chin right? you follow me? I’m
gonna put some color here and there experiment see what happens not crazy
about the gold lion o what if he had green stripes that’s kind of interesting
I love the way the gold and the green look together Itd be cooler than
having random leaves in the background right? see now do I want to add black to
anything cuz I’m gonna use kind of green as our black. yeah it’s a little weird
using them together so if I do that I’ll probably want to just use green solely
on its own all right let’s try something else try to draw from the side the
stripes they seem to all have a tuft of hair here not falling in love with this idea what about like a cub like a wittle baby one not that I know how to draw their bodies what if we just really play around with the anatomy but also I have to come up
with an idea that’s going to incorporate this metallic
like good grief I have to
[laughs] it feels like I’m painting with liquid
gold (or liquid chrome that’s the one) exactly what it feels like so the way
this person drew something was they use really heavy bold line art and then
kind of filled in with flat colors for the most part and like varied their
line weight a lot to create that really interesting line art – it would be kind of
fun to imitate that there we go now looks like Garfield we just been playing
around sketching this little tiger cub adding a little bit more
finalized-ation-ness (that’s not a word) just trying to like figure out how I
want to go about drawing because even if we don’t like the way certain sketches
are going that doesn’t mean you can’t experiment with them and have them be
helpful for your final drawing any way bad art is just easier to destroy sometimes it’s really hard to experiment when you really like the way a piece is
going, so gotta take full advantage of not liking the way something’s looking when
you can you know? oh what’s cool about these is they’re opaque you can draw
over anything what if we put gold roses? because what
the whole thing about the prompt is trying to create something that’s not as
quite as dangerous as it appears so making the background kind of
cutesy might be a fun way to do that didn’t really leave enough room for the
pads there we go! got a little tiger! the stripes really made a difference
we can still color him in gold I bet probably be best if when we do the
actual drawing that we color him in gold first so that we can get a pretty
good idea of like what parts we want to leave white because tigers also have
those like white areas that’s actually I feel like I kind of redeemed myself with
that because it did not feel like it was going anywhere at first now it’s actually
kind of cute no wait that’s metallic that’s not what I wanted I wanna draw in
black and if I draw bigger I can obviously give it a lot more details not
quite to that point unless I draw huge I love metallic grab another piece of paper here just try
one more time I kind of have an idea wait let me thumbnail it want it to look kind of bashful so I’m gonna try see if I can draw something a little
bit more like that so let’s see if we kind of want his head low feel like that
maybe I think they have a pretty long neck when they have their shoulders lungs go here you got your hips here ish you got your knees not sure which
way the legs would go right then we have our tail coming around here
what if we give him really big eyes? stylize it then we can give it much more
of an expression maybe – maybe not that big eyes wheres the eraser? there it is but
that’ll do for now we’ll figure out where the eyes go I think what I really liked about this one
it’s just how simple the eyes were because it’s grinning I just actually
don’t really like anything about this I don’t really want to erase the whole thing
I’ll save that for later in case my next idea is even worse let’s just draw it
just just a tiger like sitting there so head shoulders okay I didn’t leave
enough room maybe this would be a nice like cropped I don’t know where does a foot go? Tigers are weird looking like they’re not ugly or anything I just
cannot figure out what they look like they’re so unlike everything else I’ve
ever drawn I copied that [nose] from this mmm it looks a little Bear like right now see maybe we shortened the neck the shoulders will be up here look at that
cat eyeliner well this has been good study of cats and tigers I don’t have a
pet cat or anything so I don’t like watch them move very often or draw them
at all really and a good way to try to learn how to draw something is to try
and draw it a little bit more realistic and then once you get a hang of it you
can start stylizing it a lot more, kind of like this person can do I admire that kind of like ice age, ice age it’s always want to come back to because
just the way the characters are so stylized in that especially if I’m
trying to draw animals I feel like that was a big inspiration
for me and trying to stylize them when I do draw them obviously just gonna add
some stripes that’s kind of working see then these claws would be down like
a hereish alright, next this time I think the first… well, maybe I want to go with
some background but the first way I want to color it is with the gold and then
use black on top of that for details and then we’ll have find a way to use the green
and maybe the white as well Oh white we can use to fix problems oh yeah
okay I’m kind of annoyed there’s nothing like
there’s not a whole lot of storytelling going into this drawing but that’s what happens when you draw something new I guess
I also want to draw like a character next to them just popping up their head no no no no no I think I want to just
focus on the tiger why don’t we use the since there’s not a whole lot to the
drawing, it’s just a tiger, why don’t we use the background as a way to like make it
more illustrative and more like I don’t know dynamic or interesting so like I’ve
been drawing these kind of like leafy things what if all the leaves come up
and create like a halo around our little tiger like it’s the goddess of the
forest and then they’ll each need like stems obviously kind of like that maybe this little grassy bits and bobs down here that we can use the green for let me just like lightly erase maybe OOP should I use the other side although
these are pretty opaque so it probably doesn’t matter then I want to paint as
much of it gold as possible I do want to try and leave some spaces for like the
lines and stripes so I don’t like lose sight of where I want those to be but I
can obviously go over some of the areas that I also put the gold if I mess up
and I think most of the stuff over on the sides here is gonna be white it’s so
much easier when you start taking it one step at a time
which seems obvious but it’s just always so hard to simplify things at the
beginning and slowly build up the details because you’re like trying to
make it perfect on your first try then these back legs are gonna be more gold
on the side there we go looks alright, then the tail I’ll worry about the stripes on the next
part alright next part I want to do is be (not
this that’s Chrome) this black just go in and add all the lineart try and be very
liberal with it stripes are really really hard I really
don’t know what they should look like kind of just winging it I hope this looks pretty good because I feel like I’m so attached to it that I
can’t tell (well close to) is probably a better way to put it let’s try going over it with the white where I need a little bit of white see how
opaque this is before I like have to depend on it I kind of try to loosen up
some of these shapes that I made but why was that green whatahappened?! we got to add more
stripes that worked I’m kind of happy with the way the body looks I feel like
it’s kind of stylized but the face is where I’d like to play around with it
some more for sure and the taiiil! ♪ oh we’re probably I’ve got some white there too [adds white there too] alright now for the-I think I’m gonna let make sure that’s completely dry
before I erase some of that extra pencil but what I can also do is – I kind of want
to be pretty stylized right? all right back to these flowers I want try be able
to erase them just a little bit and redraw them there is a leaf one up here, can’t
decide if I want it coming off a piece of paper probably should because it’s
gonna be weird if I try to squeeze it in there oh this is looking better than the
first try definitely I just don’t want them to look too symmetrical because
obviously they’re an organic shape they are leaves and then maybe just put some down
here so they don’t seem so out of place let’s try that
coloring some of these leaves probably be putting some line work on top of
them – I wonder if I can like mix the gold with it if that works? like create a
gradient the plan was to add more after i finish these see how that looks but I
might be fun to leave it kind of simple like this oh! these ones down here hehehe totally forgot to make these smaller like you haven’t fully grown yet I’m gonna see if I can shade there, I mean it is a different color [unintelligable explanation for why it looks bad but I tried so its alright] exactly. erase so I have a cleaner overall look then I
might be able to see if I need to make any more changes oh no that wasn’t dry!!! I waited for all that time for everything to dry then I go and do that wonder if I
can stylize this face any without redrawing it just be like going over it
some more with this marker or is it too late
we could put green near the eyes, add some lines to these at least see how I
like it before I do anything to the cooler looking ones do them all, so it all fits the
same style ooh I’m actually kind of happy with the
color scheme the only thing I wish is if it was mixed easier to like mix some of
the colors together so that I can get like another tone of green for like more
leaves in the background and I think it is this metallic let’s see what happen
not really obvious that I even just did anything almost the glowing – that
looks really cool maybe we can just add fun magic spots just to be shiny yeah okay yeah yeah this is I don’t know if it looks good buut its hecka’fun [giggles]
just adding like kind of hidden textures so you can see when it hits
this sun or light I suppose yes I love that this is like the star of the show oh’magosh these are kind of like very very very similar to Posca pens I would say just
kind of like another brand but this what was this brand again? the Molotow I don’t
I say that Molotow? Molotow, the original liquid
chrome pen is it’s a showstopper man it’s just so shiny and it like looks
like you just used Chrome on something maybe I’m a little too excited about it but I love it here some of
the drawings we made today trying to figure out how to draw Tigers not quite
on this level yet and then there was this thing too – see if I’ve learned anything there’s my-
there’s my tiger yeah goodbye we don’t need to see you
